Using a well-known bot's name
Visits that give the name of a big company's bot but don't come from that company. Google, Bing, OpenAI, DuckDuckGo, Apple, Perplexity and Common Crawl publish the internet addresses their bots use, and The Bot Collector checks each visit in their names against those lists (the address is only compared, never kept). One coming from anywhere else is borrowing the name, most likely because websites tend to let the big search engines and AI companies in. Hover over it in the key to see whose names were used. Checking started on 13 October 2026; before that these visits were counted under the company.
Worth knowing: in the first two weeks of The Bot Collector, hundreds of requests for hidden settings files, passwords and keys (.env, .bashrc, id_rsa, docker-compose.yaml...) came in under the names of Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Perplexity, Meta, DuckDuckGo and others. They are counted with the security scanners.
